We drove through Greenwich Village and past the street Bill used to live on with his family while he was stationed in Govenors Island.
In the picture below we had just come off of that street where a tree had fallen blocking the road...I was nervous that we would not get through and forgot to get a picture of it but basically only one vehicle at a time could go around off the road.
We drove several more hours and then found a Walmart in New London around 9:00 that night and stayed put until morning. When we woke up the next morning and got our coffee, we continued on driving through Mystic, CT which was another nice town with great ambiance.
We then continued our trip and drove through a small town called Stonington, which I really liked. They were having a Tour of Homes as we drove through the town so there were alot of people out and about and it was a really nice morning.
We continued on until we got to Newport, Rhode Island. We found the RV campground we were looking for after we dumped the tanks and had to pay at a private campground right next to the Navy Base property. There were no gates and nobody taking care of the RV sites. We had called earlier in the week and were told there were no sites available however when we arrived there were two sites with nobody in them. It was about 4 pm and there was nobody at the trailer which we assumed was the Host. We asked one of the RVer's there and he said nobody had been there since yesterday afternoon so we decided to set up at one of the sites and hope for the best.
We then decided to go to town and get a bite to eat. There were a lot of places to choose from but this one looked good and was on the Diners, Drive-ins and Dives list so we decided to try it.
At Flo's you pick up menus then pick a table either downstairs or upstairs. Then you go order downstairs and they give you this Lobster shaped pager and when our meal is ready you go get it. The seafood was really good and the story of Flo's and all the hurricanes it went through was interesting too.
We then drove around a little but with the rain it was not a good evening to walk around town so we went back to the RV and luckily there was nobody waiting to get in the spot we had taken. So the next day the weather had cleared up and we decided to do the Cliff Walk which was 3 1/2 miles along the water and the back property of 64 private homes and a college.
There were several tunnels you had to go through and the path was sometimes rocky. Eventually we were the only ones walking, probably because you had to walk on the rocks for the last mile of the trail.
You could tell most of the residents were okay with allowing this path behind their property as they landscaped it or made it easier to walk on.
Once we got to the end of the peninsula there was a beach to the right or you could walk back along the road. There were museums and beautiful old and new houses.
These camels were in a yard behind a gate.
It was a long way back to the car but it was a beautiful walk
Once we got back to the car we headed back to the RV for the evening and had some dinner and prepared to leave the next morning for our next destination....Fourth Cliff in Humarock, Mass
