New Orleans

We camped at the Naval Air Station in Belle Chase, Louisiana, 9 miles from downtown New Orleans from Friday 4/9 to Monday 4/12. The campsite was actually a Fema park so not much to it. We were able to walk around and see all the wildflowers though.

One day we went to the garden district which was really nice, perfect day for a walking tour. This included Anne Rice's favorite bookstore, two of her homes and Archie Manning's house where the boys grew up (above right) and where he still lives..nothing fancy. We ate dinner at a place called Lil G's near the base for some authentic cajun food, good food but rich.

New Orleans was having there French Quarter festival this weekend so we went downtown on Friday night, ate some gumbo and listened to some music.

A friend of Bill's lives in Hammond, over an hour northwest of New Orleans so we went over to his house for fresh shrimp and steak and...if my kids are reading this, don't freak out....I shot my first handgun, it was a Rugger Alaskan, .454 caliber revolver. Not really my thing, but now I can say I have done it!!!!

On Monday April 12th we left for Texas.
